1st day on the worksite recap!!

Overall today was a very successful first day on the worksite! We started off the day with a super early 6:30 am wake up (ugh!!) after everyone was ready (and I finally dragged myself out of bed) we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of a cheese, ham and grits bake, breakfast sandwiches and scrambled eggs. We arrived on the worksite to find that we would be working on Ms. Mungen’s house; the project that we worked on last year. It was amazing to see first hand all of the changes and improvements that have been made over the year after we tore the home to bolts last year. We started various projects such as cutting countertop for the kitchen, fixing a buckled floor, and finishing a closet. After a little bit of work, Ms. Clara joined us on the worksite to join us in prayer and sing a little bit for us. The chorus of the song resonated in my head the rest of the day on the worksite; “I can't believe, he got me this far.” This especially resonated after we discussed why we came on this trip for the first time and why we keep coming back in our small groups last night. In my small group (the Centaurs), we found that all of us came for the first time because someone convinced us to come or someone talked about their experiences and inspired us to come. The returning missioners found other reasons they wanted to return but were still somewhat similar in that we all love coming on these trips and they bring us happiness. We returned to work and made great progress on all of our projects. We returned to Christ St. Paul's for sandwiches and salads for lunch and delicious chocolate chip cookies for lunch! (Thanks Mr. Arthaud and Mrs. LaFleur!!) We returned to the worksite for the afternoon and the sun finally came out after an overcast morning. (Yay!......) The afternoon went by pretty quickly in my opinion as we finished our projects. We packed up the bus and u-haul right before the dark, dreary storm clouds came towards us. It was finally time for the students to get their highly anticipated showers!!! We had about an hour of free time (nap time!!) before another delicious meal by our chefs of deep dish pizza and Caesar salad with tiramisu for dessert!! We're excited to see how we progress and bond throughout the week!!

  1. Wow. How cool to see what we started last year and the progress made to Ms. Clair's home. Wish I was with you.
